Failed to get our highest trust rating?

Here are some possible reasons why:

You re-saved the file.

Any time you open and re-save an image file—even if you haven't edited the image—you may disturb details we use to identify camera originals. Make sure to always upload an original image file that hasn't been processed by any other applications.

You uploaded from the mobile Safari browser in iOS.

Unfortunately, the Safari web browser in iOS strips out all file metadata when uploading files, eliminating the information required for some of our tests. Under these circumstances, the best test result possible is a “Medium Trust” rating. We're working on a better solution for iOS users, but, in the meantime, the best way to get a “High Trust” rating for an iOS image is to copy the photo to a computer and then upload from a desktop browser.

You uploaded images captured from a smartphone or tablet without using the standard camera app.

Our tests are optimized for the default camera app that ships with Android and iOS devices. Downloadable camera apps will often store their images in a way that cannot pass our tests.

You uploaded from an iPhone without using the izitru app.

Unfortunately, most web browsers on iOS recompress image files prior to upload and strip out all file metadata, eliminating the information required for some of our tests. Under these circumstances, the best test result possible is a "Medium" trust rating. For the best results from an iPhone, we suggest that you download the free izitru app from the Apple App Store.

We don't yet have a complete set of tests for your camera model.

One of the tests performed by izitru relies on a database of "signatures" that describe the distinct ways that different camera models store their JPEG files. We're continually expanding this database of signatures as new cameras are introduced. If we don't yet have a complete signature set for your camera model, then you may be unable to pass this test, and the best rating we can assign to your image will be “Medium Trust”. However, with sufficient uploads from you and others using the same camera model, we'll eventually collect sufficient data to build a complete signature list.
